South Korea to Launch AI-Powered Korean Language Platform by 2027 South Korea plans to launch an AI-powered online platform by 2027 to expand access to Korean language education due to high global demand. The platform, tentatively named "i-Sejong Institute," will enable real-time interaction with virtual teachers using generative AI, unlike current online and mobile services. The initiative is part of a broader 2024-2027 strategy to develop the King Sejong Institute, which has grown from 13 centers in 2007 to 256 in 88 countries in 2023. The project aims to reduce waiting lists, which currently have around 15,000 people globally, and expand the number of language centers to 300 by 2027. The government will also decentralize funding, allowing regional hubs more control, and double the number of Sejong Korean Language Assessment (SKA) exam centers from 50 to 100 by 2027.
The initiative is seen as a key effort to spread Korean language and culture worldwide.
