1 - Legislative Elections Polls
April 10 will see general legislative elections in South Korea. According to the latest poll, the Democratic Party of Korea is leading with over 45% of expected voters. Many of the party's supporters believe it's essential to elect a candidate from the opposition. Currently, the president in office in Korea is from the People Power Party (PPP). The PPP is projected to receive around 40% of the votes.
2 - Cosmetic Exports Jump
Korean cosmetics are globally recognized for their quality and have gained popularity in recent years. The Korea International Trade Association reports that overseas demand for Korean cosmetics has grown by more than 36%. In the first two months of 2024 alone, exports exceeded $1.5 billion. Key markets for these exports include China, the USA, and Southeast Asia.
3 - Jisoo, Human Dior
Jisoo, a member of the globally renowned group Blackpink, has been a global ambassador for Dior since 2021. Thanks to her influence, Dior's sales and visibility have surged, especially among Blackpink’s fans and Koreans. In 2022, sales tripled compared to 2020, and the value of Jisoo’s posts about Dior is estimated to be around $1.74 million. Jisoo is often referred to as “Dior’s treasure” or “Human Dior.”
4 - Seodaemun and the French Embassy
The Seodaemun district and the French embassy have agreed to collaborate to promote French culture in the embassy's neighborhood. The French embassy aims to increase local awareness and appreciation of French culture. Seodaemun's mayor plans to offer locals the opportunity to visit the embassy building, designed by the renowned architect Kim Chung-up. This partnership highlights the cultural exchanges between the two countries.
5 - EU-Korea Partnership
Talks began last Monday between the EU and South Korea to establish new agreements adapting to regulations related to the digital revolution. The discussions also center on semiconductors and advanced technological materials. Both parties stand to benefit from more active e-commerce and a more reliable trading environment. Additionally, South Korea has concluded negotiations for Korea's association with the Horizon Europe program, bringing Korea closer to becoming an associated country in Horizon Europe.
6 - Hearing Impaired Group
Last week, Parastar Entertainment announced the upcoming debut of the K-pop group Big Ocean. Members Kim Ji-seok, Park Hyun-jin, and Lee Chan-yeon, all of whom have hearing impairments, will form the group. Big Ocean will perform songs in Korean, English, and international sign language. This group marks a significant milestone as the first K-pop group to include members with disabilities, reflecting the industry's growing commitment to inclusivity.
